...and just like that, it's over. The senior show opening was a resounding success, and now I am pooped.

I'll post some pics soon.

My new site is officially live.

Let me know what you think or if you have any problems.

I just drew this squid:

I've been watching a show about squids on the Discovery Channel,
and effectively developed a new phobia. Wonderful.

Last night Crooked Fingers officially surpassed the Album Leaf as my most-played artist on Last.fm for the time being. The amazing part is that up to this point I have only owned one Crooked Fingers album, Dignity and Shame. Needless to say I just bought another CF album (Red Devil Dawn) on iTunes since apparently I really dig this dude's music. Who knew?

a nice day

It seems like big news on the blog circuit today is the new site for Spitzer Photography. There's a lot of great images for sure, with a nice interface. Ironically, an interface vaguely similar to the one that I am currently working with for my own portfolio site (which should be complete and up by the end of the weekend, if all goes according to plan.)

Today is a beautiful day in North Texas; after some serious thunderstorm action last night, the weather has turned quite pleasant. It's great walking weather outside. The sun is shining and the humidity has temporarily vanished, which is a rare event indeed. Oddly, on these undeniably beautiful spring days I find myself really craving some nice bouncy ska music. Does anyone else crave light hearted, horn-laden music on beautiful days? Does anyone else wish they hadn't discarded their checkered ties and worn-out high top chucks? Does anyone else wish that their wallet chain hadn't fallen into the engine of their car and been torn link from link sometime in late highschool? Does anyone else miss that somewhat questionable first mohawk and the early attempts at whispy sideburns?

Probably not.

Now I feel embarrassed. I think I'll go get a haircut or something.

forthcoming

I am currently working on what may turn out to be one of my finest mixes to date. Truly, I am bubbling with excitement. Its official capacity will be the playlist for the TCU Senior Show which takes place next Monday. Due to the personal importance of this occasion I am combing every bit of my music library for the appropriate tunes...currently the playlist is 59 songs and clocks in at 3.8 hours; by the end it will be pared down to 2 hours of indie rock gold. I shall be posting it for download after the show.

Just thought I'd share. Music is neat, isn't it?

I just discovered opensourcemac.org which has a lot of pretty great downloads for your OSX Mac. I just downloaded Vienna for my RSS feeds and so far it's pretty splendid.

I have stumbled upon this rather nifty site. Cool, eh?

As I was watching the Discovery Channel this afternoon a curious bit of irony was placed into my lap. I turned the TV on just in time to catch the commercial for BP that is displayed above (quite an odd bit of advertising in its own right, considering the product.) The commercial was then immediately followed by a promo for an impending DC special called Green: the New Red, White, and Blue which deals with the need for alternate energy sources and the destructive nature of our "fossil fuel addiction."

I hope someone did that on purpose.

TV on my LCD

Everyone needs to check out TV Links. It has a ton of streaming TV shows, just sitting there for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to the wonders of dual monitors I am currently doing some Flash work on my right-hand display while streaming the Battlestar Galactica pilot on my left.

Quite frankly, I'm afraid that my future productivity has taken a severe blow.

At the end of last week the coasters that my graphic design class had made (for free, no less) to promote our senior show finally came in. I must say, they are pretty spiffy. We ordered 1000 that we will use to bombard the local eating and drinking establishments (and wherever else) in order to promote our celebratory occasion. This Friday I'm heading up to Art Prostitute to man the button press for a day and crank out a few hundred 1" buttons with our logos as well. Exciting? Yes.

Saturday, April 07, 2007
Well, I am bordering on finally completing a new portfolio site. I have a version online that shows how the interface and content will function, though it is currently sans-preloader and any other content besides the portfolio itself. Check it out and let me know what yout think. It will probably take a couple of minutes to load all the way, so grab a snack or something.

blast off

Wednesday, April 04, 2007
Well, after weeks in the making, the website for our TCU Senior Exhibition is up and running. The show design was done by Makayla Klein and Derek Weathersbee, the site was designed and built by the great Jonathan Combs, while the copywriting and copy editing were my contributions to the whole affair. Jonathan did a great job with the site, I must say.

Everyone come to the show!

Some recent news:

This last weekend I made my way to Creative Summit in San Marcos, the well-known student conference with infamously poor promotional design (at least the last couple of years.) This year's show had some really excellent student work and I managed to land a couple of pieces in it, which was nice. The speakers were all funny and relevant; some highlights were the guys from Dress Code, Lance Letscher, and Gary Panter. Also present was Gary Baseman, who was a character in his own right. While he said he was only at the conference to "mingle" he was impossible to miss, even for those who might not be familiar with his grey crew cut and iconic soul patch. The main giveaways were his t-shirt (sporting one of his very own illustrations,) the book that he carried around with him all day (illustrated by, you guessed it, himself) and the foot-and-a-half long DOLL (of his well-known character "Toby") that he had tucked under his arm the entire day. By all this adornment you could tell that either this guy was a huge fan of Baseman, or was Baseman. Or, in this case, both. His antics were quite amusing (including, but not limited to, gaining possession of a mic and introducing himself from the audience in the middle of a question and answer session, just in case people didn't know who he was) and confirmed all the tales of his love of attention. I laughed good-naturedly throughout for sure.
Also at the conference I managed to pick up a copy of Hitten Switches in the silent auction. This collaboration between Travis Millard and Michael Sieben is pretty freakin' sweet. I shall enjoy it for some time I expect. Check it out.

In other news, I received word yesterday that I'm being hired as an intern over at Matchbox Studio starting at the end of May, so that is splendid news. Also I was able to see Explosions in the Sky in concert for the second time last evening, and once again they played an excellent show. They only played (I believe) two songs off the new record, which was a bit surprising, but definitely not disappointing. I recommend that if you ever have an opportunity to see this band live that you don't let the chance slip by.

I think that is all for now.
