a thanksgiving

Friday, November 24, 2006

there are many things i could talk about this thanksgiving season; i could talk about the piles of food, the football games, the home improvement projects, the missouri countryside, the family squabbles, the rock throwing contests, the tenuous family photo sessions or perhaps even the early morning best buy runs, but i feel that the topic worth discussing this post-thanksgiving season is the childress family sleeping arrangements. oh, the joy of still being considered a youngster, still young enough to be lumped in with the "kids," thrust into a single large room with your six fellow cousins and forced to coexist with relative harmony. oh, the loveliness of snoring and dog hair, the comfort of a carpeted floor with cement a mere inch below. the wonder of waking up to your army major uncle bellowing "wake up, there's a lot of work to be done today!" the sheer ectstacy of sleeping with blankets over your face to drown out the late-night episodes of star trek voyager and reruns of csi: miami.

oh, how i look forward to these experiences.

but then,

what are family gatherings for?

man, i love these things.

an excitement

Tuesday, November 14, 2006
i am sitting here at my desk unable to concentrate on anything in particular, because my new macbook is scheduled to arrive today. oh, i am giddy with excitement. any time that i hear the slightest racket i run to the door and fling it open, hoping to be greeted by the cheery visage of a fed-ex employee holding my beloved brown cardboard boxes. my excitement is compounded by the fact that he (or she, i suppose) has knocked upon my door twice already, and both times i was gone. oh, how tragic it is to find those little green sticky tags on your door telling of the arrival and then departure of your precious packages...

so, today i am digging in and skipping classes until the macbook finds its way home. i have purchased protein bars and dr. pepper for the occasion. here is a list of things i have done while waiting this morning:

1. played mario cart: double dash.
2. changed the strings on my guitar.
3. taken out the trash.
4. surfed the internet restlessly.
5. not done any of the work that is due this week.

it had better come soon or i'm afraid my well-structured week shall collapse into shambles. when i am anticipating something i am rather useless, i'm afraid.

well, i'd better wrap this up...

i think i hear baby mario and baby luigi calling my name from the other room.
