a revelation

Saturday, September 30, 2006

hmm. i'm sitting here drinking my 2:48pm cup of coffee, working on the poster above (not finished, part of a campaign being made for john paul II school) and i have realized after a quick review of my website that my resume is oh so very out of date. so...if you are looking at my site and consider downloading my resume...keep that in mind. oh so out of date.

i think it's about time for a revamp on the site. the current configuration has been up for...at least 6 months now, which is quite a record for a justinchildress.net site design.

rather.

any ideas for the new look?

i also think i'm going to build a site for my more personal endeavors, prints and drawings and such. perhaps i'll do that over christmas.

word.

a paper

Sunday, September 24, 2006
today i'm starting what will hopefully be the second-to-last college paper i will ever have to write. luckily it's a semi-interesting topic. i'm supposed to pick a common category 1 street drug (marijuana, cocaine, etc) and write a paper arguing for its usefullness in medicine, if prescribed moderately and specifically. interesting. i recommend everyone read this book as it is a fascinating analysis of the war on drugs in america today. it's pretty much the only text book i've ever read almost straight through.

i also lost one of the little pins for my watch today. now it's flopping all over the place.

how annoying.

a sad truth.

hopefully the zine will go into final production this week, if all goes according to plan.

a show

this weekend was chock full of music and travel.

friday night i got off work and headed to a spur-of-the-moment raconteurs show with christina, who had somehow managed to score two free tickets the day of. my back was a bit sore after nine hours of standing on cement floors, but i somehow managed to drag myself to nokia for a stint in the pit. the opener was dr. dog who of course can play an enjoyable tune or two. the crowd was the lamest in a while (perhaps since i saw the faint on what was apparently middle school field-trip day) which serves us right for going to a clear channel-sponsored event. i expect that most of the tickets were given to middle-aged business men as some sort of promotion. there were also a couple of young polo and flip-flop clad , madly dancing drunksters who i was secretly hoping would trip and fall so i could accidently step on their faces.

yesterday was a drive to austin for the sufjan stevens show, which was splendid indeed. we took the long route which of course resulted in a 6 hour commute, but if texas has a truly pretty portion we did drive through it. the show was of course spectacular, as was the historic paramount theatre where it was held. sufjan shared the stage with 15 or so orchestral instrumentalists which resulted in a rather beautiful spectacle of sight and sound. it was the most intricately manufactured show i have been to in long time, truly. i wish i could create something as beautiful as what i heard last night.

truly.

a purchase

Saturday, September 02, 2006
i just bought one of these contraptions and now it is on its way to me. i am rather excited. i am going to be designing a booklet on pinhole camera construction and photography so i shall be taking plenty of pictures for this utility. i'm also going to be making one of these, the matchbox is on my desk as we speak...

...i also want one of these babies for my birthday. just in case anyone is interested.

phew, what phenomenal excitement!

a brick

Friday, September 01, 2006
i just saw a rather delightful film by the name of "brick", directed by some rian johnson, a seemingly new director from maryland. it was an interesting new twist on the film noir style of story telling with throwbacks to forties crime dramas with its quick dialogue and nearly unintelligable slang. it was recommended to me by a random fellow in blockbuster who saw christina and i browsing the racks and liked the look of us. thanks, random fellow, i commend your taste!
