a show

this weekend was chock full of music and travel.

friday night i got off work and headed to a spur-of-the-moment raconteurs show with christina, who had somehow managed to score two free tickets the day of. my back was a bit sore after nine hours of standing on cement floors, but i somehow managed to drag myself to nokia for a stint in the pit. the opener was dr. dog who of course can play an enjoyable tune or two. the crowd was the lamest in a while (perhaps since i saw the faint on what was apparently middle school field-trip day) which serves us right for going to a clear channel-sponsored event. i expect that most of the tickets were given to middle-aged business men as some sort of promotion. there were also a couple of young polo and flip-flop clad , madly dancing drunksters who i was secretly hoping would trip and fall so i could accidently step on their faces.

yesterday was a drive to austin for the sufjan stevens show, which was splendid indeed. we took the long route which of course resulted in a 6 hour commute, but if texas has a truly pretty portion we did drive through it. the show was of course spectacular, as was the historic paramount theatre where it was held. sufjan shared the stage with 15 or so orchestral instrumentalists which resulted in a rather beautiful spectacle of sight and sound. it was the most intricately manufactured show i have been to in long time, truly. i wish i could create something as beautiful as what i heard last night.

truly.
